Private and Buddy Lessons are individually tailored for all levels, all musical styles. BEGINNERS WELCOME!

NOTE: FOR SCHEDULES AND RATES, SCROLL DOWN PAST THIS CIRRICULUM SECTION.

LESSON CURRICULUM: We’ll tailor a curriculum to your needs and goals. Choose a “general” path, select from any of the special topics listed below, or suggest your own special focus!

GENERAL PATH Using music that you know and love as material, we'll explore the technique and theory behind what makes it work on the guitar. Learn to play songs and styles that inspire you, and learn to understand why they work the way they do.

**************
Special Focus Options:

Rocket Fuel for the Self-Taught Player – You’ve learned to play guitar on your own, but you're feeling stuck and bored with what you know. You’ll be amazed at how your playing zooms to a whole new level with a little music theory and a handful of new techniques.

Songwriting, Song Doctoring – You’ve written a song or two (or fifty?) and want to develop and refine your songs to make them the best they can be. Or, you’re just getting started with writing your own songs. Either way, we’ll work together to apply elements of songwriting craft to your work, and really make it shine.

Guitar for Parents & Teachers of Young Children – Kids are a most appreciative audience! You’ll be surprised how easy it is to learn just a few chords, then delight young children by playing your guitar and singing favorite songs with them.

The Alchemy of Jamming – What’s with those people who take their guitars out at a party or a campfire, and somehow magically know how to accompany each other, even if they’ve never met? Learn the theory, techniques, and some very cool tricks that will let you join the party with confidence and some impressive chops.

Multitrack Recording & Arranging –Using the Mac program GarageBand, learn about the power of multitrack recording as an arranging and composing tool. Make your own multi-layered music – maybe even a full-length CD of your favorite tracks. Be your own one-man or one-woman band!

Performer’s Bootcamp – For the aspiring or developing performer, learn performance skills, and career strategizing. From how to write a setlist, to recording a demo, to how to schedule and publicize gigs.

THE FINE PRINT:

To allow for the inevitable shuffling of guitar cases, packing up of music, traffic jams in the waiting area, etc. that entails the beginning and end of every lesson, an “Hour” lesson will run approximately 55 minutes of instructional time, and a “Half-Hour” lesson will run approximately 25 minutes of instructional time.

The payment and cancellation policies are designed to make payment and record keeping as painless as possible, ensure attendance, and help keep my teaching schedule flexible and open to all of my students despite a tight schedule. All of us (including me) need to reschedule or cancel from time to time, and giving an early heads-up will help keep my teaching schedule flexible enough to accommodate requests for make-up and rescheduled lessons.

Cancellations:
Notification of any cancellation or request to reschedule should ideally be made one week in advance, but no less than 48 hours in advance. Lessons missed or canceled with less than 48 HOURS notice will be forfeited. Lessons canceled with the appropriate notification may be rescheduled for the same week if the schedule permits. Short-notice cancellation due to illness, unsafe driving conditions, or family emergencies are eligible for a makeup lesson.

(The following are NOT considered emergencies: scheduling conflict with other activities, forgetting we had an appointment, not being in the mood, homework.
PLEASE NOTE: 48 hours notice is requested in these instances or the lesson is forfeited.)

Make-Up Lessons: (no, not how to put on mascara…) If you miss a lesson, every attempt will be made to schedule a make-up lesson soon thereafter. Additionally, there will be one make-up week at the end of each term, to catch up on any lessons missed during the term.

All in the Family: For students who wish to enroll for a full term, yet must take an extended leave during that time (4 weeks off for soccer, for example?), their scheduled lessons may be transferred to a family member or friend during their absence.

Withdrawal:
Partial refunds are available to Full-Term students who withdraw within first three weeks. Full-Term Weekly students who withdraw within the first three weeks will be refunded 70% of total semester fee. Bi-weekly students may withdraw after 1 lesson, and a refund of 70% of total semester fee will be issued. Tuition for withdrawals occurring later in the term is non-refundable, though remaining scheduled lessons may be transferred (see All in the Family, above).
